but you “drifted” straight into a curb and broke your mismatch painted bodykit, break our the zip ties, it’s time for drift stitches
but then you grew up, bought a house, you’re raising a family, and you drift your basement door into the door frame too strongly...
you shoulda seen the look on my wife’s face...
the crack (which actually occurred some 4-ish years ago and has been covered with children’s art since) actually offset the two pieced of door about half an inch, so it was a large difference that needed to be brought back together.
The three hole drilled on the edge were so I could level the piece back into place while I tightened the zip ties down to keep it there
glue glue glue, and cut the zips flush
more glue, then scraped it flat with a razor
huzah! it held after the zip ties were removed
glob on the wood filler
time to talk costs. a replacement door was $45+tax. Filler was my only expense (as a POS car owner I of course have a massive supply of zip ties on hand) at $4.50 for some very sticky plastic-wood filler.
first layer of filling smoothed, and a few extra globs applied
smooth and shape.
primer
second primer.
now just to rep aint all three doors on this floor as they’ve all got an infinite supply of dirty hand prints and boot scuffs, the general wear and tear of being the main portals in/out of my house
hmm, yikes, some cursory fb picture hunting indicates the door has been art covered to hide the large crack for 6 years? at least?
only last year, because our pup is only 2 years old
but when I was doing the floors the walls were still green, yikes, it’s been some time.

I would have just bought the new door, but I respect what you've done here.

what kind of a shop teacher are you if you’d replace over fix?! :D

That is great work and clever using the drift stitch technique, lol. I would’ve 100% just spent the $45 on a new door though.

Ain’t nothing bondo and zipties can’t fix.

Nice work...
I’m still with everyone else who would have bought a new door though.

I’m impressed but I think I’m also firmly in the by another door camp because fuck body work.

You just wanted an excuse to do drift stitching, admit it, you broke the door on purpose.

Monkee has a point. What are you teaching our youth?

he’s probably teaching them actual wood working skills, and the value of doing a job right and not half assed :D

It’s nice to see stitch-and-glue used outside of boat building
. Well done.

Look at Mr Rockefeller here buying new doors! You think you’re better than me! Why waste all that money when a simple tarp or fashionable novelty flag will do

it is a door, maybe it is a boat?

Glue and woodfiller counts as wood working. And your job looks good, I'd say at least 3/4 assed!

Better than a screen door on a boat!

Nice. I felt like I MENDED SOMETHING! when I filled in a lil’ chunk out of the kitchen cabinets a repair guy left behind. Filler is magic.

Recently, I read that woodworking is mainly about hiding your mistakes.

That front bumper looks like Frankenstein’s Motor Vehicle.

Lol!
I hate sanding, and I hate painting even more. I’d replace the door, and leave it in primer until my wife got sick of looking at it, and painted it herself. We're at five years and counting for our new back door :)

Shenanigans and tomfoolery.

Yes! Let's go with that!
![]() 06/08/2020 at 12:54 |

that’s kinda the plan here! I’ve repaired it, and primered it. And the remaining painting to match and refresh the other doors is on her :D

I can't argue that logic :)

There is a lot of truth to that.

I'm terrible at woodworking, so I would agree.

True... more time spent fixing things means less time shitposting on Oppo!

Didn’t need to google, I spent seven years as a Subaru parts manager.
